For years, the most foot traffic that this empty lot received was from the occasional carnival that would be passing through town for a short while – a momentary way for our kids to have fun until their favorite store would be rebuilt. Or so we thought. Little did we know that this Toys R Us would never be rebuilt. Instead, it was replaced. The CVS moved from across the street, and its new building was built on this lot. Are pharmacies essential to our communities? Certainly! But, we all still had to get used to the new use of the space.
And we are back! Too much nostalgia? Well, what was the point of this little trip down memory lane? Well, like the famous Martin Luther King Jr once said: “If you can’t fly then run; if you can’t run then walk; if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” Therefore, let’s move forward to our present-day! In fact, for over 30 years, we have owned and operated our local company on the borderline between Prince George’s County, Maryland, and Washington, DC. Members of our team have taken the orange line from the New Carrollton Metro Station to Metro Center to Gallery Place to attend a concert or watch a basketball game at the MCI – correction Verizon – actually, we mean Capital One Arena! We have even taken the New Carrollton Amtrak train to Union Station! Not to mention our familiarity with the DMV traffic. Also, when the traffic backs up, as it always does at exit 20, we enjoy the excuse to take the exit and get some refreshments from the drive-thru Starbucks.
